Rising Gas Prices Lead to Perverse European Lifestyles

By John Farley • Aug 5th, 2008 • Category: Spotlight

So it’s come to this: our trusted American existence compromised by our oil dependency. As gas prices fluctuate between $4.00 and $5.00 per gallon, we are forced to seek near-Marxist alternatives to our God-given automotive right, many of us choosing a primitivism we haven’t experienced since childhood.

Louis C. K. at the State Theatre 6/27/08

I’ve seen Louis C.K.twice previously in the past year. Both times were at what you may call… dumps: PNC Bank Arts Center and NYC’s Town Hall. OK, so Town Hall isn’t so bad, but compared to the State Theatre, I may as well have been sitting in trough urinal at a ball game. The State Theatre’s richly appointed interior decor is exactly the right accompaniment for baby diarrhea jokes and simulated masturbation.

Still, when given the opportunity to see HIGH ENERGY PROP COMEDY, I am all over that like Carrot Top on a syringe full of either botox or anabolic steroids.

I’d been trailing him for months by way of Oslo, Sri Lanka, Cairo, Edison. As each clue turned up another dead end, my mind obsessed over the question, “Where is Guy?”
I received word that Guy (that’s ghee, like the Indian clarified butter) had left 4 associates behind in New Jersey of all places. [...]

Hub City Hellrazors 83 - River City Roller Girls 58 - 04/20/2008

By John Farley • Apr 24th, 2008 • Category: Features, Sports, Spotlight

The Hellrazors delivered a crushing 83-58 defeat to Virginia’s Roller Girls on Sunday. From rinkside, we witnessed first-hand the damage wrought by the Hellrazors as they dominated the Roller Girls from the initial whistle. River City suffered several disadvantages while their jammers, the skaters who score points, were in the penalty box on [...]
